KEY FEATURES OF THE MSR SWITCH 1.OL STOVE SYSTEM

  • Versatile: Flip-out pot supports so you can bring your favourite cookware (8-in /20.3 cm max diameter) or use the efficient, integrated 1.0L Switch pot.

  • High-Performance: A pressure regulator, found on very few stoves in this class, provides good fuel efficiency, even in cold conditions and higher altitudes, and improves flame control for more precise cooking for delicate foods like eggs.

  • Lightweight: Complete system weighs 392 g; stove weighs just 117 g.

  • Efficient Hemispherical Design: Patent-pending rounded Switch pot bottom heats faster and more evenly than a traditional flat-bottom pot, boiling 0.5L of water in 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

  • Stable Pot Support: Ring stand for integrated pot to rest on makes placing the pot on the stove easy and intuitive.

  • Easy to Light: Built-in piezo ignitor makes lighting the stove simple and fast.

  • Compact Nesting: All components and a 4-oz fuel canister* nest efficiently together inside the Switch pot.

  • Premium Cork: A more sustainable option, the removable cork cosy is burn resistant and won’t melt upon accidental contact with heat, and provides better grip when wet than other materials, minimising the chance for spills.

  • what we think

At Valley and Peak, we have been using the MSR Switch Stove System and have been really impressed by how well designed and versatile it is. The stove strikes a solid balance between efficiency, ease of use and practical features, making it a strong option for a variety of trips.

One of the first things we noticed is how flexible the system is. The flip out pot supports allow you to use your own cookware up to 20 centimetres in diameter, or you can stick with the included one litre Switch pot which is designed to work seamlessly with the stove. The pot features a rounded bottom, which MSR calls a hemispherical design. In use, it really does heat more evenly and boil water faster than standard flat bottomed pots. We consistently boiled half a litre of water in around two and a half minutes, which is ideal for everything from morning brews to evening meals.

The stove feels stable and well thought out. The integrated ring stand gives the pot a secure place to sit, making setup quick and intuitive. We particularly liked the built in piezo ignitor which makes lighting the stove simple even when conditions are less than ideal.

Packing away is tidy and efficient. All the components nest neatly inside the Switch pot and there is space for a small gas canister too. The cork pot cosy adds a premium touch. It offers good insulation, provides a reliable grip even when wet and holds up well around heat. It is a more sustainable material choice and genuinely practical in use.

It is worth noting that the Switch system probably will not appeal to ultralight purists. There are lighter stove setups out there for those who want to strip back every gram. However, for most people looking for a reliable and versatile stove system that performs well across different conditions, the Switch is a great option.

Overall, the MSR Switch Stove System delivers a lot of practical benefits. It is fast, fuel efficient, packs away neatly and offers excellent control over cooking. We enjoyed using it on our recent trips and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a dependable and easy to use cooking setup for their outdoor adventures.
