What we think
Our gear expert Dan has been using the Therm-a-Rest ProLite Plus primarily for bivvy camping trips in the Peak District and overall he finds it to be an extremely robust and reliable mat. It offers a good balance of comfort and durability making it a solid choice for overnight wild camping and shorter trips where weight is less of a critical concern.
While the ProLite Plus is a bit heavier compared to some ultralight mats it provides excellent insulation with an R-value of 3.2 which is perfect for three-season use in the UK. The self-inflating design adds to the comfort and convenience allowing for a quick setup and good cushioning on uneven or rocky ground. The 50D fabric on both top and bottom gives it extra toughness helping it stand up well to rough terrain and frequent use.
For longer multi-day hikes where every gram counts the weight might be a drawback but for weekend bivvying or wild camping relatively close to home it performs brilliantly. It packs down reasonably small and is easy to carry while still offering enough warmth and comfort for chilly nights.
In summary the ProLite Plus is a dependable and well-made mat that suits anyone looking for durability and comfort in their overnight setups without needing to prioritise ultralight gear. -
