What we think
In 2012 Polartec partnered with the U.S. Special Operations Forces to develop the first active insulation, Polartec Alpha. They needed a performance fabric that was ultralight, packable, fast drying, durable, warm, and most importantly could breathe.
I’ve been trying out the Farpointe Alpha Cruiser for the last 3 months. Having been curious of polartec alpha material for quite some time, but not really finding it on the UK market (likely due to its U.S special operations origin) I was itching to give this hoodie a bash!
At first I must say, (even as an ultralight backpacker) I was sceptical of a piece of clothing with such a bold warmth to weight ratio but I was won over the moment I donned it.
It’s joined me on the last 90 days, from mountain camps to icy morning runs and everything in between!
It’s safe to say it’s my new go too mid layer and will be joining me on my hikes next year.
I'm extremely impressed with its pack size, weight and super comfy hood! I can literally take it off and stuff it in my pocket! For sizing reference I'm 6'2, 73Kg and wear a size medium.
