what we think
At Valley and Peak, we’ve had the opportunity to test out the MSR Hubba Hubba Bikepack 1-person tent, and overall, it’s been an impressive piece of gear. Designed with bikepacking in mind, this tent strikes a great balance between lightweight performance, durability and usability, making it an excellent option for solo adventurers who want to save space and weight without compromising on comfort or protection.
One of the first things we noticed was the compact and efficient design. The Bikepack version is a slightly more compact and lighter variation of the original MSR Hubba Hubba, which is ideal for bikepacking, where every bit of space and weight counts. It packs down into a small, easy-to-carry size, and while it’s not the lightest option available, it offers excellent value for the features it provides.
Setting up the tent is quick and straightforward, thanks to MSR’s iconic pole system and colour-coded clips. The vestibule provides ample storage space for your gear, keeping it dry and protected from the elements — a key feature when you're out in the wild. The tent itself feels solid, and the high-quality materials used in its construction are built to last.
In terms of weather protection, the Hubba Hubba Bikepack performed really well. We encountered some rain and light wind during our testing, and the tent held up excellently. The rainfly offers good coverage, ensuring water doesn’t get in, and we had no issues with leaks. As for wind, the Hubba Hubba Bikepack handles light winds really well, providing a stable shelter. However, anything more than 20mph wind and it’s best practice to seek a more sheltered spot, as the tent is best suited for calmer conditions.
Inside, there’s enough space for a solo traveller and their gear. The tent is designed for one person, and while it may feel a bit snug for taller individuals, it still provides adequate space for sleeping comfortably. The vestibule is also useful for storing your gear, keeping it dry and off the ground. The breathable interior fabric helps reduce condensation, which is an important feature when camping in cooler weather.
One downside is that the tent can feel tight for taller individuals, especially when you need extra room for your kit inside. While the floor space is adequate, it might not offer enough room if you're carrying a lot of equipment or prefer more room when sleeping.
Overall, the MSR Hubba Hubba Bikepack 1-person tent is an excellent choice for bikepacking and solo trips. It offers a great balance of performance, comfort and weather resistance in a compact and manageable package. While it may not handle extremely high winds as well as larger tents, it’s perfect for calm conditions and can certainly hold up in less severe weather. If you’re looking for a reliable solo tent for bikepacking or hiking, the Hubba Hubba Bikepack is definitely worth considering.
