Introduction to Nortent

Nortent Tents have carved a niche for themselves in the outdoor gear industry, embodying a perfect blend of innovation and tradition. Founded over 30 years ago by Kjetil, a passionate outdoor enthusiast, Nortent's journey began with a vision to create tents that resonate with nature while providing reliable shelter for adventurers. Kjetil's experiences in the military, particularly in the rugged terrains of northern Norway, inspired him to develop high-quality tents capable of withstanding the harshest weather conditions.

The Nortent Philosophy: Nature + Geometry

Kjetil’s military service exposed him to various tent designs, but it was his profound connection with nature that ignited his passion for creating tents that harmonise with the environment. Drawing inspiration from the mathematical and geometric principles found in nature, Kjetil aimed to develop tents that were not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing.

Kjetil discovered through mathematics that many elements in nature are built upon geometric principles, creating a sense of harmony in shapes and sizes that both humans and animals instinctively recognise. When we look closely, we can observe geometric forms and fractal patterns everywhere in nature. The universe itself aligns with these patterns, providing a sense of balance and harmony to all living things. A striking example of this is the golden ratio, or golden number, which is approximately 1.618. This ratio, found both in nature and human design, appears in everything from the depth-to-height relationship in a staircase, making it comfortable to walk, to the width-to-length ratio of a credit card, giving it an appealing and ergonomic feel. The sunflower, like many other living forms, also exhibits this beautiful 1.62 ratio, highlighting the profound connection between geometry and the natural world.

As a mathematics teacher and with a passion for nature, Kjetil grew increasingly convinced that outdoor gear should harmonise with the natural world. He believed that a "mathematical tent" would not only function better but also feel more in tune with nature. In developing his modern designs for camping and backpacking, he drew inspiration from the time-honoured techniques of indigenous people, whose tents are built to endure the challenging Norwegian climate. This approach led to the creation of Nortent’s Lavvo and Gamme tents. The Lavvo is cone-shaped, a shape you find in numerous features in nature. The  Gamme is circular, one half of a perfect round globe. Perfect circles are also known to produce optimal balance when it comes to strength.

Where are Nortent tents made?

Nortent Tents are designed and rigorously tested in Norway, a country renowned for its stunning landscapes and challenging climates. Following this extensive development phase, production occurs in Changzhou, China, where skilled craftsmen adhere to high-quality standards during the manufacturing process. Each tent undergoes meticulous trial and error in real-world conditions, ensuring that they meet the expectations of outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.

Key Features of the Nortent Tents

  • Innovative Design and Construction

Nortent's tents are celebrated for their thoughtful design, which includes features such as storm flaps for added stability and a unique pole system that allows for greater flexibility. Unlike many competitors that rely on standard suppliers for tent poles, Nortent manufactures its own poles. This enables them to customise each pole to the specific needs of each tent model, enhancing durability and performance.

    • Weather Resistance

Nortent tents are crafted to withstand more severe weather conditions. For instance, models in the Vern series are tested to endure high wind speeds providing adventurers with the confidence to face the elements. Additionally, Nortent employs high-quality materials such as silicone-coated ripstop nylon, which offers superior waterproofing compared to traditional fabrics.

      • Versatility and Comfort

The range of tents offered by Nortent, including the Gamme, Lavvo, Vern, Ly, and Koie, cater to various outdoor needs, from family camping trips to demanding expeditions. Each tent is designed to be easy to set up, ensuring that users can quickly establish shelter and focus on enjoying their outdoor experience.
