what we think
At Valley and Peak, we’ve had the opportunity to test out the MSR Hubba Hubba Bikepack 2-person tent, and it has impressed us across the board. As an excellent option for bikepacking duos or solo travellers who like a bit more space, the 2-person version of the Hubba Hubba Bikepack combines practicality, durability and weather resistance in a compact, easy-to-carry package.
One of the first things we appreciated about this tent was its efficient, bikepacking-friendly design. While larger than the 1-person version, the 2-person tent still packs down relatively small, making it easy to transport on a bike. It’s lightweight for a two-person tent, and while not the lightest in its class, it’s an excellent trade-off considering the extra space and comfort it offers for two people or a solo traveller with more gear.
Setting up the tent is straightforward and quick, thanks to MSR’s reliable pole system and colour-coded clips. The vestibule provides good storage space for gear, which is essential when you’re bikepacking and need to keep your kit dry and protected from the elements. The overall structure feels solid, and the materials used in the construction are clearly high-quality and durable.
In terms of weather protection, the Hubba Hubba Bikepack 2 performed well across varying conditions. We encountered rain and light winds during our testing, and the tent kept us dry and secure. The rainfly provides good coverage, and we had no issues with water getting in. When it comes to wind, the Hubba Hubba Bikepack 2 handles light winds very well, providing a stable shelter. However, when the wind picks up over 20mph, it’s best to look for a more sheltered spot, as with most lightweight tents. It can stand up to breezes and moderate conditions but isn’t designed to withstand extreme winds.
Inside, there’s plenty of room for two people and their gear. The 2-person version offers significantly more space than the 1-person model, giving you enough room to sleep comfortably without feeling cramped. The additional space in the vestibule is a bonus, offering extra storage for equipment, keeping your gear off the ground and dry. The breathable fabric inside helps minimise condensation, which is a key feature when you’re camping in cooler weather.
As with most 2-person tents, the Hubba Hubba Bikepack 2 might feel a bit snug if you’re sharing it with another person who’s carrying a lot of gear, but for a minimalist duo, it’s perfect. The extra room in the vestibule certainly helps if you’re storing a lot of equipment. For taller individuals, the tent offers enough height to sit up comfortably, which adds to the overall comfort level.
Overall, the MSR Hubba Hubba Bikepack 2-person tent is a fantastic option for bikepackers and anyone looking for a reliable and spacious tent for two people or a solo adventurer who wants more room. While it may not be the best choice in extremely high winds, it offers a great combination of comfort, weather protection and compactness. If you're looking for a durable and easy-to-carry tent for bikepacking with a bit more space, the Hubba Hubba Bikepack 2 is an excellent choice. -
