EXTREMELY ROBUST TENT WITH PLENTY OF ROOM FOR 2 PEOPLE AND GEAR

The NORTENT Ly 2 is an extremely robust tent with plenty of room for 2 people along with equipment and cooking. Very suitable for longer hikes into the wilderness far away from houses and cabins where you really need reliable protection against the elements. With its aerodynamic shape and many possibilities for anchoring the tent to the ground, this tent is a true friend that will keep you safe in various weather conditions. Nortent believe you should not have to fight the elements but rather become one with and thrive in them.

Ly 2 is designed to provide clean and correct lines that blend in with nature. As a tunnel tent, Ly 2 is incredibly easy to set up quickly and effortlessly, making it ideal for those long walks in the outdoors with a reliable shelter for the night.. With a little practice, you should be able to set up the tent in just 3-4 minutes, allowing you to quickly crawl into a warm and safe sleeping bag. Additionally, as a tunnel tent, the Ly 2 requires only three poles, reducing the overall weight and making it easier to carry.

All exposed areas on the outer fabric are reinforced with Dyneema, which is considered the world's strongest fibre. It is therefore entirely appropriate that Nortent use this fabric fibre in their tents.

The Nortent Ly 2 comes with its footprint included.

  • Features

The flysheet made of silnylon is of course waterproof. However, like all high-quality tents with this fabric, the seams can be treated with a special silicone mixture to ensure they are completely waterproof. This is not mandatory, but it's a good idea. One challenge with a waterproof tent is air circulation. Without proper airflow, condensation can build up on the inside walls of the outer flysheet (not inside the inner tent). Ventilation is crucial to prevent this.

To address this, Ly 2 is equipped with two large dedicated air vents at each end of the tent. Additionally, you can enhance ventilation by utilising the four flexible entrances. The two top air vents also serve as extra overhangs, providing protection against rain when you leave the entrance open. This design ensures that you stay dry and comfortable inside the tent.

Ly 2 has two very spacious awnings where there is plenty of space for a backpack, shoes and other equipment. At the same time, the awnings are well adapted for cooking and use of cooking equipment. At the awning you will find a spacious inner tent with plenty of space for two persons (and perhaps a child) where the inner tent easily accommodates two 190x65 cm sleeping pad in addition to gear and clothes. For cold days you can seal the doors in the inner tent completely. For hot days you can open them, but still and at the same time, have mosquito net covering the entrances against insects.

We have equipped the inner tent with a total of 4 storage pockets so that you can keep all your small stuff and gear in order..

You can open all four entrances to bring "nature" into the tent. On wet and harsh days, the design of the tent still provides shelter from the weather and wind with the entrances open. In really stormy weather, you may prefer to close it completely. But still, there is of course the possibility of doing all your cooking in the awning.. Ly 2 is designed for flexible use where you are presented with many different options to let nature into the tent, but at the same time be protected from wind and rain.

Ly 2 utilizes sleeves for attaching the poles. The sleeves for the poles are made from a thicker and durable fabric compared to the thinner nylon fabric of the flysheet. This combination significantly enhances the tent's durability and wind resistance.

When strong winds act on the tent, the thicker fabric of the sleeves distributes the force along the length of the pole, rather than concentrating stress at specific points. This even distribution reduces the risk of tearing and damage, ensuring that the tent remains robust and intact under harsh conditions.

Additionally, the thicker fabric of the sleeves provides extra support and stability to the tent structure. It works in conjunction with the nylon flysheet to create a more resilient shelter. The sleeves allow the poles to slide through smoothly, maintaining the tent's aerodynamic shape and enhancing its ability to withstand strong winds.

By using sleeves with thicker fabric, Ly 2 ensures that external forces are evenly spread out, minimising the risk of damage and extending the tent's lifespan. This design choice enhances the tent's performance in challenging environments, offering superior protection and reliability.

If you need to make Ly 2 even more robust, we have designed it to accommodate double poles. This feature is made possible through our own dedicated pole cup design where our cups are made of flexible and durable nylon (not ABS plastic). Imagine standing in unforeseen and challenging weather, with persistent wind threatening to make your stay uncomfortable. Using double poles provides exceptional stability and adaptability to the unexpected.

With the freedom to double up on poles and the elimination of restrictive sleeves, you gain a significant advantage in creating an ultra-secure shelter. It's not just about setting up a tent; it's about confidently navigating the unpredictable elements. Whether you're contending with fierce winds or embracing a surprise snowfall, double poling offers a practical solution that takes your adventures to the next level in terms of adapting to the elements.

  • What we think

At Valley and Peak, we’ve had the opportunity to spend some proper time with the Nortent LY2 tunnel tent, and overall, it’s a very capable and well-considered shelter. Designed as a two-person, four-season tent, the LY2 is clearly built with tough conditions in mind. From the first pitch, it’s evident that the setup is relatively straightforward. With just two main poles and a simple tunnel structure, it goes up quickly, even in less-than-ideal conditions. The fact that the inner can remain attached during pitching is a huge advantage, especially when dealing with rain or snow. That said, as with most tunnel tents, pitching solo in strong winds requires a bit more patience and planning, so getting the guy lines secured early really helps.

Inside, the space is generous for a tent of this type. There’s ample headroom to sit up comfortably, and the length means even taller users or those with bulkier winter gear won’t feel cramped. The vestibule is a good size too, offering enough space to store kit or cook when the weather forces you inside. One thing Nortent consistently does well is material choice, and the LY2 is no exception. The flysheet feels robust and well made, the stitching and construction are solid, and the included pegs and guy lines are more than up to the job in rougher conditions.

In use, the tent performed very well in wind and snow. It held its shape, shed snow efficiently and remained stable throughout. Ventilation is well handled, with thoughtfully placed vents that help to reduce condensation without letting in too much cold air. As with any tent in this class, you still need to actively manage airflow in cold or damp conditions, but overall the design strikes a good balance.

In terms of packability, the LY2 weighs in at around 3.5 kilograms depending on how you choose to pack it. It’s not an ultralight option, but considering the level of protection it provides, the weight is entirely reasonable. For winter journeys, remote camps, or any trip where the weather is likely to push your gear to its limits, the LY2 is a strong and dependable choice. We were particularly impressed with how it handled cold nights and exposed terrain—areas where lesser tents might have struggled.

Overall, the Nortent LY2 tunnel tent is a very capable option for those needing a serious shelter built for demanding conditions. It’s reliable, well-designed, and offers the kind of protection and liveability that genuinely makes a difference when it matters most. We’re proud to have it in our range and would gladly recommend it to anyone planning adventures in wild, wintry environments.
