WHAT WE THINK
This tent strikes the perfect balance between weight, space, and durability—key factors when you’re packing light and hitting the trail on two wheels. We’ve found it to be easy to set up after a long day of riding, and the vertical walls provide a surprising amount of room for two, with enough space to store our gear inside.
The freestanding design is a standout feature for bike packers, as it allows us to set up on a variety of surfaces, from hard-packed dirt to gravel campsites. The durable, waterproof fabrics and the high-volume design of the HV (High Volume) model keep things spacious and comfortable inside while standing up to the elements. The large vestibules offer plenty of space for bike gear, panniers, and other essentials, without compromising the liveable space inside the tent.
However, one slight drawback is the inner pitch first design. While this is common in 3-season tents, it can be a bit of a hassle in rainy or windy conditions, as you have to set up the inner tent before securing the outer fly. In bad weather, this could lead to getting the interior wet before the fly is in place, which can be a bit frustrating. That said, the easy setup and quick-pitch design mitigate this to an extent, and if you’re prepared, it’s not too big of an issue.
Overall, the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 Bike packing Tent is an excellent choice for bike packers who need a lightweight, spacious, and easy-to-pitch tent. The inner pitch first design can be a minor drawback in wet conditions, but the overall ease of setup, durability, and comfort make it a solid choice for multi-day bike packing trips. -
