WHAT WE THINK
One of the first things we appreciated about the Blacktail 3 Hotel is the amount of space it provides. Unlike many bikepacking tents that can feel cramped, this tent offers plenty of headroom and room to stretch out. The three-person design makes it perfect for two people with lots of gear, or even for a solo camper who wants extra space to move around comfortably.
The dual doors and two vestibules are a great feature, especially for bikepackers, as they give you easy access from either side and provide extra storage space for your bikepacking bags, shoes, or other gear that you want to keep dry and out of the way.
Setting up the Blacktail 3 Hotel is straightforward, with color-coded poles and a simple clip system that makes pitching the tent quick and easy, even after a long day of cycling. The rainfly provides full coverage and keeps you dry in heavy rain, while the mesh panels provide ventilation to reduce condensation during warmer nights. Even in windy conditions, the tent feels stable and secure, so you can rest easy knowing your shelter won’t be blown away.
However, one drawback we’ve found with the Blacktail 3 Hotel is its weight. At around 3.5kg for the tent, it’s on the heavier side compared to more ultralight options. While it’s still manageable for bikepacking, especially for those who want a bit more space and comfort, it might not be the best choice for those looking to shave every gram. If you’re looking for the lightest possible option for fastpacking or minimalist bikepacking, this might not be the best fit.
