How to choose the right backpack?

If you know you’re going to be trekking in treacherous weather, ensure your pack is 100% weatherproof. Planning on being on the road for more than a couple of days pick a pack that will be large enough to store all your equipment and look for something lightweight, your back will thank you.

Think about your preferences, would you like one large pocket to keep everything in or lots of sections within the bag to organise different items. If you know you suffer with back problems picking a backpack with padded straps that will also distributes weight evenly across your hips is advised.

What accessories do you need for your backpack?

Dry packs and stuff sacks are a great way of organising your backpack and keeping everything compact. Carabiners are a simple way of securing smaller items in your backpack such as keys for easy access, they can also be used for aesthetic purposes if you like the style.

Every backpack should include a hydration station whether this is a bottle of water or a filter pack it’s important to always keep a way of staying hydrated with you when partaking in outdoor activities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Gregory a Samsonite brand?

No, Gregory is not a Samsonite brand. Gregory Mountain Products is a separate and independent company specialising in outdoor backpacks and gear. They have produced high-quality backpacks since 1977, focusing on durability, comfort, and performance for outdoor activities like hiking, backpacking, and mountaineering.

On the other hand, Samsonite is a well-known global luggage brand offering a wide range of travel bags and accessories. While both companies operate in the luggage and backpack market, they are distinct entities with unique product lines and brand identities.

What country is Gregory backpack from?

Gregory backpacks originate from the United States of America. Gregory Mountain Products was founded in San Diego, California, in 1977. The company has a rich heritage in producing high-quality backpacks and outdoor gear, focusing on designing innovative and durable products for adventurers and outdoor enthusiasts.

Gregory backpacks are known for their exceptional fit, comfort, and performance, making them popular among hikers, backpackers, and mountaineers worldwide. With their American roots and commitment to quality craftsmanship, Gregory continues to be a trusted brand in the outdoor industry.

Who owns Gregory Packs?

As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Gregory Mountain Products, the company behind Gregory Packs, was owned by Samsonite. Samsonite, a global travel luggage and accessories leader, acquired Gregory Mountain Products in 2014.

By combining Samsonite's resources and distribution channels with Gregory's expertise in outdoor backpacks, the acquisition aimed to strengthen the position of both brands in the outdoor gear market. However, please note that ownership structures can change over time, and it's advisable to verify the current ownership status of Gregory Packs, as my information might not be up to date.

How to attach trekking pole to Gregory Backpack?

Attaching trekking poles to a Gregory backpack is typically a straightforward process. Most Gregory backpacks feature external attachment points designed explicitly for securing trekking poles. Here's a general guide on how to attach them:

1. Locate the attachment points: Look for dedicated attachment loops or bungee cords on the sides or front of your Gregory backpack. These are typically positioned to accommodate trekking poles.

2. Prepare your trekking poles: Collapse or fold them to a manageable size, typically by separating the sections and shortening them.

3. Insert the poles: Place one trekking pole inside each attachment loop or bungee cord, ensuring the tips face downward for safety.

4. Secure the poles: Depending on the design of your Gregory backpack, you may need to tighten a bungee cord, use a buckle or clip system, or fasten a strap to hold the trekking poles securely in place.

5. Test the attachment: Give the poles a gentle tug to ensure they are securely attached. Adjust the tension or reposition the poles to achieve a secure fit.

Remember to consult the specific instructions provided with your Gregory backpack, as attachment methods may vary slightly between models. Additionally, it's always a good idea to test the stability of the attached trekking poles before embarking on your adventure to ensure they are firmly secured and won't come loose during your hike.
