  • REVIEWS

"Bikepack tents use smaller poles, typically 12-inches, and trust me, once you have had the option to pack and fastpack with 12″ poles you will be completely sold on them. Ultimately, they were designed to fit across the handlebars of a bike, but equally, they will fit inside pretty much any run pack – a winner!"

"There are several features specifically for cycling, for example, a helmet attachment point and on the outer, loops are attached so you can add items without losing them. This is perfect for attaching socks, t-shirt, shorts etc after a day on the trail and allowing them to air and dry out."

"Pitching is fast, easy, and secure and importantly you have three options: 1. Full tent with inner and outer. 2. Inner only. 3. Outer only. The use of TipLok Tent Buckles makes things very easy especially with the secure pole tip catcher and pre-cut guy lines."

  • WHAT WE THINK

We took the Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL1 out on our bikes during a summer trip to the Peak District, and it turned out to be a perfect companion for a lightweight, hassle-free camping experience. The first thing that stood out was how easy it was to carry. At just over 1kg, it’s incredibly light, making it ideal for bikepacking when you’re trying to keep your gear minimal but still need shelter for the night. The compact size and small packed dimensions meant it didn’t take up much room on our bikes, so it was one less thing to worry about when packing up each morning.

Setting it up was quick and straightforward, which is a blessing after a long day of cycling. The colour-coded poles and the simple two-pole design meant we had the tent up in no time, even in a bit of drizzle. Once pitched, the Fly Creek HV UL1 offered just enough space for one person and a bit of gear. It’s not massive, but for solo camping, it’s a cosy fit. The high-volume (HV) design really makes a difference in terms of headroom, and it felt much roomier than expected, especially for a lightweight tent. The vestibule provided just enough space for our bags and boots, though it could be tight if you’ve got a lot of gear.

We were fortunate with the weather, but even in the Peak District’s unpredictable summer conditions, the tent held up well. It was light enough to manage in gusty winds and kept us dry during a couple of heavy showers. The mesh interior and well-ventilated fly helped with airflow, so condensation was kept to a minimum, which is crucial for keeping the inside comfortable on humid nights.

There are a few things to keep in mind, though. The lightweight materials, while perfect for saving weight, do feel a bit delicate. On rough ground or if you're rough on your gear, it might not be as durable as some heavier options. The tent is best suited for solo use, and while it’s plenty spacious for one person, two people would definitely feel cramped. The vestibule is handy for gear storage, but if you have large panniers or a lot of equipment, you might struggle to fit everything under the fly.

Overall, the Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL1 was a great choice for our summer bikepacking trip in the Peak District. It’s lightweight, quick to set up, and offers solid protection from the elements. If you’re looking for a compact, reliable shelter for solo adventures, especially where every gram counts, this tent delivers on all fronts. Just be mindful of the space if you're planning to bring a lot of gear, and treat the materials with care to ensure longevity.
